Product DescriptionIntelligent, sturdy and strong, these pint sized ponies are renowned for their hardiness in extreme conditions. Originating in the Scottish Shetland Isles, Shetland ponies were used for pulling carts and plowing farmland. Later, during the Industrial Revolution, they were used as pit ponies, working underground hauling coal - the Shetland is one of the strongest horse breeds for its size and can pull twice its own weight. Thankfully, today the Shetland pony has a happier existence and is a much loved companion, ridden by children at horse shows, or driven by adults in harness driving classes. Celebrate the fabulous Shetland with the Shetland Ponies 2012 wall calendar - filled with delightful images of this fine horse. |
