The rail network is easy to use with very frequent services especially within the big cities. For train enthusiasts - the Shinkansen bullet trains are not to be missed - covering the 1715km route from north to south in only 7 hours and 30 minutes! The Japan West Rail Pass covers a smaller more specific area of western Japan. This excursion pass allows the visitor to explore the many sightseeing locations of the area including: Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe-Nara and Himji. This pass is available for 1 or 4 days of consecutive travel starting from the first travel date and allows unlimited use of the Ordinary class cars including the rapid-service and special rapid-service trains. This pass cannot be used for the Shinkansen trains.
