Full-flavoured and silky, we rescued this Dordogne 'claret' from ancient vineyards a few miles upriver from our quayside. 25 years ago Bergerac was our top-selling red ... then it lost its way and was caught out by the new international competition. Now La Gabare is back - and at the same price as decades ago! It's named after the flat-bottomed boats that used to bring wine down river to the chai and has been aged by us in oak in the old chai at Castillon. Black cherry colour, with a depp nose of ripe black plums and spicy oak. Firm but not harsh - very classy, with great length and depth. Bramble fruits aplenty, full and dense.
