Product Description

We have been working with Bob Berton for more than a decade at the various cellars he has managed and have always been impressed by his wines. You could call him a mate - and you need those in the Australian wine scene right now where wine is suddenly scarce! A couple of years ago, he set up on his own and asked winemakers James Ceccato and Belinda Morandin, with whom he had worked often before, to join him. This is just the second vintage from his cellar, but right from the start he has had impressive success. Hermit's View uses Australia's champion red grape - its most widely planted and in the most part, its most successful. It makes a wide range of wines from the dizzy heights of Australia's top-dingo Grange red (previously known as Grange Hermitage) to the soft, easy quaffers which are a bit kinder on the pocket. They all share a generosity of smoky blackberry and liquorice fruit. This lush Shiraz, with just a hint of oak, is named after the marvellous landscaped cave-cum-gardens constructed by Valerio Recitti, an Italian who, after a run of bad luck, decided to become a recluse and lived in a cave in Griffith. Between 1929 and 1952 he turned the escarpment into a beautiful 16-hectare landscaped garden.
