Product Description

Honours for the Martinez Bujanda estate roll in every year from all corners of the world. No fewer than eight of their wines were named as the best in the country by the top-selling Spanish magazine, Gourmet. They were named best bodega in Spain by America's Wine and Spirits magazine and one of the top 50 estates in the world by the top American magazine Wine Spectator nine times in succession. The estate was established in 1889. Now, four generations later, two brothers, Carlos and Jesus, run the concern. Theirs is a progressive approach and they are always at the forefront of change. They were leaders in moving away from over oaky wines to a fresher, fruitier style. They are ahead again experimenting with making small quantities of wines from a single grape variety instead of the normal blend. They have also challenged the rules on oak-ageing - testing to see whether it's better to use newer oak and age the wine for less time. Their state-of-the-art winery, built in 1984, clearly demonstrates their commitment. It also has a barrel hall with 11,000 casks, in temperature and humidity-controlled conditions. The success of the Martinez Bujanda wines can also be attributed to the complete control the brothers exert from grape to bottle. They only use grapes they have grown themselves. This fact alone makes the estate unique in Rioja.
