This is a ripe juicy blend of native Portuguese varieties Alicante and Castelao with a dash of Syrah for extra richness and depth of flavour. Oak-ageing just adds those sweet spice notes of cinnamon and sandalwood. Alto Piona is made at the Adega de Pegoes cellar where much vaunted winemaker JP Ramos consults, and the vineyard is surrounded by a border of cork trees ...so wine and cork comes from the same piece of land. "Deep claret in colour with juicy forest fruit aromas, and rich, jammy flavours with elegant floral notes reminiscent of fine Northern Rhone reds"
