Product Description

Castillo is the vino de la tierra of La Mancha which, only 20 years ago, produced large quantities of bulk wine largely for distillation. Thanks to major investment in modern technology, it has been transformed into arguably Spain's most dynamic and exciting wine region. Some of the biggest players in wine, including top Rioja houses such as Martinez Bujanda, have flocked there to buy land and build wineries. Although the fruit for Vega Oliveras was sourced from La Mancha, the creators of this silky Tempranillo is the Roqueta family, who have had a winery in the Pla de Bages region for 800 years ... with the documents to prove it! Some of the original buildings still stand, but juxtaposed is their state-of-the-art winery, presided over by talented chief winemaker, Juan Soler. Vega Oliveras is a silky, easy red full of soft berry fruit. It's made purely from Tempranillo, a grape with lots of supple strawberry charm, best known in the wines of Rioja. In fact, this variety is grown throughout Spain under various synonyms such as Tinto Fino, Tinto del Pais and Cencibel. A few months in American oak casks has lent a little extra vanilla complexity to this wine. Its name means 'field of olive trees' and evokes the many olive groves to be found all over the plains of La Mancha.
